lcd soundsystem meets the muppets

There can simply be nothing better than this. The internet can now close down, because it's all over.

LCD Soundsystem's 'Dance Yourself Clean' performed by the Muppets. I especially love hipster Animal and Cookie Monster sipping 1664s on the Brighton Beach.

oh, hell no

And if you refuse, the cast will insert said bassoon somewhere extremely unmusical.

radiohead

Yeah, yeah, I know, the album (The King of Limbs) became available last Saturday, so I'm way behind here. Plus this weird-ass vid of Thom Yorke dancing has been making the rounds and been remixed into a variety of even weirder songs. (I think 'Bird is the Word' is my favorite, in a tear-my-eyes-from-their-sockets kind of way.)

But today was the first day I had a chance to finally get my download of the record opened and actually listen to it. Pretty good stuff, IMHO. Fuck the haters--you know, the second you record your own Radiohead album on a par with, say, Kid A, or OK Computer, you can start screeching about how everything they've done since sucks ass. In places, it's variously haunting, energetic, creepy, rhythmically challenging, uplifting, and enervating--everything we've come to expect from Radiohead.

TKOL downloads avail here.

milhaus

it's an emo kind of day, i guess. what with all the sunshine and the happy people out enjoying it.

in fact, maybe i'll go for a run, just so i can keep a close eye on all those dimwitted sheep...while listening to 'bela lugosi is dead.'

now i'm imagining Milhouse singing Bauhaus...disturbing.

it's an emo thing...

...you wouldn't understand. no one understands the bleakness that is existence.

Equus preview

Ugh, I kinda pretty much hate these little preview vids that get shot to promote shows. I mean, yeah they're fine, and the intent is wonderful; many thanks to Gloria Shanstrom for taking the time to do this. The problem is that theatre isn't film, and jumping in to a spot in the show prior to a tech week rehearsal and expecting to see performances anything like what we are at least hoping to achieve during a run-through is a bit hopeless.

I guess it's just perfectionist me saying, 'But I could do so much better!'

Whining as usual. :)

Still. For what it's worth, I am having a great time working with Zuni (Jose Zuniga, who plays Alan) and the rest of the cast. It is a show that I think needs to be seen to be believed, despite the disturbing themes. It is, as my character, Dysart would say, 'unsettling.'

But then, as Wendell Berry said:

'To go in the dark with a light is to know the light. To know dark, go dark.'

Show info follows.

Equus opens
this Friday, Feb. 18 ...

Equus

Peter Shaffer's Equus is a true classic drama that still mesmerizes audiences and deserves to be seen by a new generation of patrons. In Equus, Peter Shaffer has worked in many dramatic genres, including domestic tragedy, farce, and historical drama. Many critics have observed that what makes this play unique is the seamless incorporation of several dramatic genres, in addition to the amazing suspense of the tale. The play has been credited for its intriguing examination of the roots of mental illness as well as its canny updating of Greek tragedy. Rated R - for mature audiences only - adult situations and language, some nudity.

quick hits

Hey all--
I just closed 'Wm. Shakespeare Abridged' and now I'm balls-deep in tech week for 'Equus,' (will post deets soon) so I've been neglectful of posting here. Just to keep you around for a few more days, here's some cheap reposts from other sites. :)

house on religion

Of course, the advisability of learning life lessons from fictional characters is not recommended.

For fans of House--nor for fans of Jesus!!

Haha! See what I did there? :D

a bird in the hand is worth...

You know, this is the kind of church I could get behind. Er, in front of. Um, I mean, on top of. Inside of.

I suspect they're going after the highly-sought Beavis and Butthead demographic.

Heh heh. You said 'bush.'

mansplaining

Via.

Yes, we all get tired of having to 'mansplain' things to the fairer sex, I'm sure.

On an entirely unrelated note, we also get tired of finding unexplained drinks flying into our faces and random high heels kicking us in the balls for no reason.

February 4: Mansplain
delighting in condescending, inaccurate explanations delivered with rock solid confidence of rightness and that slimy certainty that of course he is right, because he is the man in this conversation
Even though he knew she had an advanced degree in neuroscience, he felt the need to mansplain "there are molecules in the brain called neurotransmitters"

mmm...baby sandwich

 delicious, delicious baby sandwich.

Looks fresh, too. Now if we could only train them to sit around and be very still so they gain rich veins of fatty tissue...oh yeah. Video games. It's like we've been planning for the impending food apocalypse all along.

fox news 'information'

Nailed it.

Good job, Fox News. Once again, you parody yourselves so we don't have to. It's hard to believe that even the geniuses over at Fox would make a mistake like this, especially when the actual occupant of that spot on the map is home to their freedom-fightinist, favritist, freedom-fry-iest war of all time. (Hint: that's not where Egypt is. Think billions of American dollars and thousands of American lives over a ginned-up set of lies...think 'known unknowns'...think John Bolton's mustache--who would he like to bomb?)

This maybe is a bit too on the nose, but it certainly does go a ways toward confirming that study back in December that showed that Fox News viewers were the least well-informed (from alternet):

Here is a list of what Fox News viewers believe that just aint so:

* 91 percent believe the stimulus legislation lost jobs
* 72 percent believe the health reform law will increase the deficit
* 72 percent believe the economy is getting worse
* 60 percent believe climate change is not occurring
* 49 percent believe income taxes have gone up
* 63 percent believe the stimulus legislation did not include any tax cuts
* 56 percent believe Obama initiated the GM/Chrysler bailout
* 38 percent believe that most Republicans opposed TARP
* 63 percent believe Obama was not born in the U.S. (or that it is unclear)

Keep up the good work, Fox! Although the article correctly points out that CNN and MSNBC didn't fare all that well either. Hmm. Somehow, when politicians and the media are all completely beholden to corporate largesse, the 'news' gets weirdly skewed in such a way as to benefit the status quo--meaning big corporations.

Go figure.

So for fun, here's a graphic showing how Fox News might have reported events throughout history, had they been around.
